Peliknya perihal agama
ialah ketika satu atau sedikit penganutnya
berperilaku tidak hormat kepada penganut agama lain
atau menstigma negatif kepada agama lain,
seolah-olah agama yang dianut mengajarkan seperti itu.
Sementara,
agama sangat bergantung dari interpretasi penganut per individu.

Mahalnya, hebatnya, dan agungnya suatu agama dalam hati kita yang kita yakini
sehingga posisinya mantap di hati,
ialah justru ketika dia direndahkan atau disalahkan
dan membuat kita tertekan sebagai penganutnya,
namun kita hanya tersenyum dengan kekeliruan pengertian
dari mereka yang lain itu.

Penggunaan bahasa asing atau istilah-istilah akademik yang tinggi
memang berhasil mencitrakan seorang pemimpin
sebagai seseorang terdidik atau terpelajar dengan baik.
Namun, hanya pemimpin yang bicaranya sederhana namun dari hati
yang mendapatkan hati dan cinta dari orang-orangnya.

Apalagi kecerdasan yang tinggi selain mengerti dan bisa berempati
kepada orang lain, terutama kepada mereka yang dipimpinnya?
Mungkin itu yang membedakan pemimpin pintar dengan pemimpin yang agung.
Hidup terlalu mudah ketika hanya berusaha untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pribadi
dan membentuk diri sendiri.

Seperti antara keluarga dan pekerjaan yang sering dikeluhkan banyak orang
tentang bagaimana cara mendapatkan keseimbangan di dalamnya--
alih-alih menjadikan meretia (mereka) dua kutub yang saling meniadakan dan melupakan,
begitupun halnya antara agama dengan penghormatan atau kasih sayang.
Mengapa ada orang-orang besar, alim, dan tulus taat kepada agamanya,
namun juga baik, mengerti dan hormat kepada orang lain dan kepercayaannya, bijaksana, dan bahkan mulia bagi semua lapisan horisontal agama itu?

Agama memang bukan budaya, tia (dia) nilai luhur yang sifatnya "rigid" dari atas sana.
Namun jangan lupa, cara kita dibesarkan, cara merespon, dan berpola pikir,
semuanya dipengaruhi oleh, bahkan itu budaya kita sendiri.

Mungkin kita harus memisahkan terlebih dahulu pendidikan pembentukan pribadi yang "fair" terhadap diri sendiri dan kehidupan,
dengan pendidikan untuk pemahaman dan peresapan nasihat-nasihat agama,
di pikiran dan di hati, yang kemudian menjadi tindakan yang saksama dan matang.

Apakah dia yang disebut suri tauladan itu, terlahir sebagai nabi dulu baru kemudian menjadi orang baik, mulia, luhur, dan mampu memimpin dirinya sendiri, atau sebaliknya?
Bagaimana bisa nasihat-nasihat agama membelakangi nurani?
